I am Legend

After watching the movie, I am Legend, I wondered what it would be like to be the person that saved all of civilization. I cannot even comprehend what it would be like if this had been a real life situation; living in complete isolation struggling to find a cure for such a deadly virus! I cannot even imagine waking up each day in such emptiness and fear without completly loosing hope or giving up all together. I suppose that is why it was a movie though because I don't think, in reality, that any human being would be able to endure such a length of time alone and not give up. That is also why I think the last words of the movie are so accurate to describe what Will Smith's character did,

"In 2009, a deadly virus burned through our civilization, pushing humankind to the edge of extinction. Dr. Robert Neville dedicated his life to the discovery of a cure and the restoration of humanity. On September 9th, 2012, at approximately 8:49 P.M., he discovered that cure. And at 8:52, he gave his life to defend it. We are his legacy. This is his legend. Light up the darkness."

I too want to leave a legacy, but my legacy I know and frankly hope isn't as great as this. I just want to leave this world knowing that I lived completly for Christ. I want to feel that I accomplished all that God had planned for me, that I made a difference and that people knew God better because of how He was reflected in my life. I want to die knowing that I won't be remembered for my humaness, but for the reality of Jesus Christ being a living Spirit in my life!

I don't think I will find a cure for some deadly virus and perhaps in the eyes of the world my legacy will never be as great. But, how great is a leagacy, a life that is lived for Christ? Is it not a greater task? Is living a life for Christ not also a cure for a deadly virus?

The world is full of sin, evil, hate, desention, confusion, and even lonliness. Living a life for Christ is bringing hope to the hopless, bringing comfort to the sad and weary, strength to the weak, mercy to the merciless, peace to the hostile, and justice to the broken. Living a life for Christ is bringing a cure to the sick and lighting up the darkness!

Living for Christ may not be a legacy that the world will remember, but it is a legacy I want to leave for those in my piece of the world.
